This is a piece titled “Dog Suit Blood Splat 01″ by the artist Funky Red Dog. I was browsing flickr and this was the first piece of his I saw and I pretty much fell in love with it immediately. And his other works are just as great. This is just a “sneak preview” post because I plan on doing something fuller in the actual zine. But, you can still check him out on his flickr, blog or website (links to follow). He lives in Brighton & Hove, England and here’s a quote from his bio that I like! “My roots are in printing but i always liked the mistakes more than the perfect print. My work now is like that, although the processes are always very close to printmaking, the final images are still unique and have there own story.”

Okay, so I’m kind of just making this post so that there is something on this blog since its taking me a bit to get going today and I might not have a REAL post till later tonight and I didn’t want this to be so .. blank. So, um. LOOK! A blog! I think at this point, I’ve put more effort into this project than anything else I’ve worked on. I can’t wait until there’s an actual non-digital issue of the zine. It’ll feel nice to hold it. And send it to anyone who wants a copy! For free, of course. At some point I’ll need to setup a mailing list. If anyone has any experience with managing this type of project and wants to help out with behind the scenes stuff and give me advice or anything that would be awesome. This is the first time I’ve undertaken such an in depth project. Learning experiences are fun.
And just so there’s an art piece or something in this post, I’ll be selfish and post a picture of my favorite of my paintings. A Self-portrait homage to an Andy Warhol self-portrait.
